Going to college right out of high school is probably a good idea for most people. However, it is not always possible for everyone to be able to do this. Life has a way of dictating what we have to do. Things like get a job, raise a family, or other obligations seem to take precedent over any dreams of college we may have. There is certainly nothing wrong with taking care of our responsibilities first. In fact, that is exactly what I had to do for many years. Like many other people, I reached a place in my life where I felt that I had the time to put towards college. Granted, I was now well past the usual college freshman age group, but I figured better late than never. I knew that I wanted to try an online college course or two, but wondered if they would be too difficult for me to handle.
I had never taken a college class in my life, let alone take one on a computer. I wondered are online college classes hard? I eventually found out that many other first time online students shared my concerns about this exact thing.
As I began my first foray into the online learning environment, I discovered that there were many other older adults returning to college or taking college classes for the first time. I was happily surprised that there were other students that were older than I was. Most ,if not all, of us had the same uncertainty about just how difficult this style of learning is. One other thing that I was surprised about is this uncertainty is not limited to older students, but it is a major concern for the younger students as well. I believe these worries are based on the fact that we have always taken school instruction in a classroom situation.
Once you take that first class, you quickly find that many of the concerns you initially had will fade away. Online college is a new type of learning method for many of us. Anyone can learn to master it, if they would just try it.
