My best friend and I grew up in a small town somewhere in Mississippi. When we graduated high school we moved out to Los Angeles took up odd jobs to support ourselves hoping that one day we will be discovered and become stars. Unfortunately, all the other girls living in L.A. had the same idea. We never became stars or actresses. We ended up getting married, me to an accountant and her to a lawyer. Although we live in different parts of town, we still spend one day a week having lunch and going shopping or just have coffee and talk.
One day she told me that her husband was promoted as a partner in the law firm he worked for and that they were having a formal dinner party with close friends and her husband’s associate in celebration of the promotion. Since she did not know anything about formal dinners, I volunteered to help her out. We had to make a list of what we needed. Caterer, florist, dinnerware set, crystal glasses and such. We went out looking for caterers and florists and found one that we could afford. As for dinnerware, an office mate of mine gave us a list of formal dinnerware brands that she recommends. Gibson dinnerware sets and Sango dinnerware were some included in the list. WE checked both brands but ended up a set from Sango instead.
The dinner went smoothly and it was a success. A week later, while having coffee and talking about the dinner party, we both couldn’t help but reminisce and look back to what we came here for and how we ended up to what and how we are now. We dreamed of becoming stars then but our dreams never came through. We became housewives instead, but we are both content and happy with our lives. To have loving and caring husbands and a best friend you can always count on, life has definitely been kinder to us. In the end, we both agreed that we did not do so bad after all.
